The Roadhouse Regulars

Alternate | Acoustic | Blues | Roots

The Roadhouse Regulars is my current project for original material with the debut album “Redemption” released in 2017. The album is a major development in my songwriting with the album achieving a consistency- rhythmically, lyrically, thematically, musically– so that the album is indeed a whole. The album is heavily influenced by the strong rhythms and lyrics of hard rock but equally influenced by the raw sounds of acoustic roots music that lets acoustic guitars, harmonica, drums, piano and pedal steel speak in their natural voices. The result… Alternate | Acoustic | Heavy | Roots.

Redemption (2017)

The Story of the Man, the Woman, the Preacher, and the Way out of Town.

Redemption is a firmly in the tradition of concept albums with the songs forming one performance piece that tells the story of the Man, the Woman, the Preacher and the Way out of Town. The album was largely inspired by a desire to strip back songs- heavy rock and blues- to their roots and relying on acoustic guitars and drums with harmonica, pedal steel and piano adding voice. Thematically the songs talk of rebellion & reckless abandon, wild nights, lady luck and her incarnations, the darkness before dawn, and the reflection and redemption that follows.

Redemption is available on iTunes and Spotify.

Take me to the Badlands, Mamma (2017)

A large inspiration for the music and style of The Roadhouse Regulars is the hard blues and rock of the 1970’s. “Take me to the Badlands, Mamma” is a recording project that takes some of these iconic songs, reinterpreting them in the Alternate | Acoustic | Heavy | Roots style. The project takes songs from Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Deep Purple and KISS and takes them into the style of The Roadhouse Regulars.

Third (2014)

My third album, Third, is a series of stories about faith, hope, love and pain. Each song has it’s own story about where it came from and how it came to be – you can read the stories in the tasting notes. Third is available on iTunes and Spotify.

Delicacy (2012)

My second project was also recorded in Miami but was written in Sydney after my initial return home. The album– Delicacy— retained some of the eclectic feel of my first album however there was a significant shift away from instrumental pieces towards songs that fitted firmly in the country/ rock genre.

Pennies for Tomorrow (2011)

I’ve been playing music for a long long time, but only started writing and recording my own music since returning to Australia in 2011 after working in financial markets for over 20years.

I recorded my first album- Pennies for Tomorrow, in Miami in 2011. It started off as a project to record just one instrumental jazz piece I wrote but as I started the recording process– other songs started to come out. The album emerged as an eclectic collection of material that reflects the sudden release of creativity that must have been waiting inside for all those years working. The songs range from ambience and instrumental blues to swing, rock and country.  I never thought I had it in me to write an album until I started with just that first song. To me, the album is…

Something sweet, something sad,
Something lonely, something wild,
Something cheeky, something happy,
Something quiet.
